CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING LE CENTRE BROWN

Destination WIS will help fund a new interdisciplinary, science-centric building, Le Centre Brown, in the heart of Tregaron, where truly integrative approaches to learning can take place. The impact? An enhanced experience across disciplines and activities, allowing students to investigate, experiment, collaborate, and socialize.

LE CENTRE BROWN FEATURES

  • State-of-the-art science and robotics labs for Middle and Upper school instruction, with ample classroom and prep spaces that provide students room to explore and connect
  • Design labs that promote innovation and creative thinking
  • Flexible spaces for instruction, gatherings, and performances, as well as student, faculty, and alumni events
  • Community dining space and facilities to provide healthy, high-quality meals for students and faculty on both campuses
  • At a total cost of about $70 million, funding for Le Centre Brown and related Campus upgrades will be sourced from four areas: financing, cash reserves, Phase I fundraising and Destination WIS.

LE CENTRE BROWN FAQS

WHY IS WIS CONSTRUCTING LE CENTRE BROWN?

As WIS enrollment has grown over the decades, certain facilities at Tregaron, most notably those related to science and food service, have not kept pace. The existing small and inflexible spaces have come to dictate our approach in the classroom and limit our ability to bring people together. To ensure our facilities enhance rather than constrain the WIS experience, Le Centre Brown will support our mission to be an exemplary learning community. The plans feature:

  • State-of-the-art science labs for Middle and Upper School instruction, with ample classroom and prep spaces that provide students room to explore and connect.
  • Design labs that promote innovation and creative thinking.
  • Flexible spaces for instruction, gatherings, and performances, as well as student, faculty, and alumni events.

Community dining space and facilities to provide healthy, high-quality meals for students and faculty on both campuses.

WHEN WILL LE CENTRE BROWN OPEN?

Le Centre Brown is scheduled to open for general use in the fall of 2025.

WHAT SORT OF CAMPUS DISRUPTIONS CAN WE EXPECT FROM CONSTRUCTION?

The construction team, in partnership with WIS leadership, is being diligent about respecting noise levels during the school day, with special care being taken to not disrupt learning and exams on campus. Since no existing learning spaces are being taken out of commission during construction, students are not being physically displaced.

Families can expect limited parking at Tregaron during the construction project. The athletic field will also be returned to use when the new facilities open in 2025.

HOW WILL LE CENTRE BROWN AFFECT EXISTING SPACES AT TREGARON

Le Centre Brown will bring a substantial increase in space that will benefit all students, allowing WIS to reimagine and renovate existing and vacated spaces across campus, both indoor and out. We are currently in the process of strategically repurposing existing spaces in accordance with curricular needs and industry best practices.

Destination WIS is bringing substantial improvements to the greater Tregaron Campus, including:

  • Revitalizing the Academic Walk and other pedestrian areas to improve accessibility and circulation.
  • Restoring the historic four-square garden area, creating improved outdoor gathering spaces.
  • Reclaiming areas in the Carriage House to address existing campus-wide space constraints, particularly those affecting the Middle School.

Some improvements have already been completed, specifically the relocation of the Dacha to a more suitable traditional woodland setting northeast of the Mansion.
