DELAYED OPENINGS OR CLOSURES DUE TO INCELEMENT WEATHER

In the event of inclement weather, WIS will make its own decision regarding a closure or delay. There will not be a specific announcement about WIS on local radio or TV stations. WIS sends email and text alerts, and posts delay/closure information on the website home page, typically before 6:00 AM.

In the event of a two-hour delay, beginning-of-the-day schedules shift by two hours. Administrative staff are expected to report to school by 10:00 AM on snow delay days; exceptions must be approved by the department manager. Unless otherwise specified, all standard dismissal times remain unchanged on delayed-opening days.

UNPLANNED EARLY DISMISSALS

If students are already on campus and we need to announce an early dismissal/mid-day closure, WIS will use the methods noted above. In addition, we will send a broadcast email to all parents.

EARLY DISMISSAL/HALF DAYS

Half-day professional days take place throughout the year and are indicated on the one-page summary calendar as well as the website calendar. Unless otherwise noted, Upper School dismissal is at 11:30 AM. Middle School dismissal is at 11:50 PM. Primary School dismissal is between 11:40 AM-12:00 PM.

If the school decides an unplanned early closure is necessary, an email is sent to all parents and an announcement is placed on the WIS website (parents may also sign up to receive a text alert). Detailed information regarding student pick-up and after school programs is included in the email.

ATTENDANCE

If your Primary School child will be absent, please contact Tony Fletcher at the front desk (email/phone) before 9:00 AM; if your child is sick, please also inform the Primary School Nurse Jaime Zike (email/phone).

To report a Middle School student's absence contact Carmen Lluch (email/phone) and to report an Upper School student's absence contact Kaia Boe (email/phone). If a Middle or Upper School student will be absent due to illness, please also inform Nurse Molly Foa (email/phone).

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

All necessary supplies are provided for Primary School students. There are no recommendations for Upper School students. All Middle and Upper School students must provide their own headphones.

We recommend that Middle School students wait until after the first week of school to purchase supplies, since each teacher may require different materials. However, some general supplies are listed below.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GENERAL SUPPLIES

All students are assigned a locker (measurements are: 72" high x 14.5" wide x 19.5” deep) with a built-in combination lock. The backpack should fit comfortably into the locker. The School provides each student with an assignment book with the school year letter day schedule. All students should have:

  • A sturdy backpack (rolling or hard frame backpacks are not permitted)
  • Notebooks or a binder with notebook paper
  • Two or more marble composition books (subject to change over the course of the year)
  • Pencil case with: pencils, blue or black pens, highlighters, pair of scissors, glue stick, pencil sharpener, ruler, erasers (you may need to replenish these supplies throughout the year)
  • Small set of colored pencils
  • Small set of markers in different colors
  • A small, soft gym bag that can fit inside the lockers, for physical education (PE) clothes.
  • One water bottle
  • Headphones (the school does not have headphones for students)

We suggest buying a couple of extra binders/folders and notebooks early in the year while there are sales because items will probably be lost over the course of the year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL OPTIONAL SUPPLIES

Some students may benefit from having one or more of the items listed below.

  • Pocket folders for three-ring binders
  • Small sticky notes
  • Reinforcements for lined paper
  • An inexpensive scientific calculator
  • An insulated lunch box
  • A second charger for an iPad, so the student has one at home and one at school.
MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLOTHES
The PE department requires all students to have a good pair of sneakers with non-marking soles for INDOOR use as well as a good pair of sneakers for OUTDOOR use. Students should have a full change of clothes: athletic shorts and/or sweat pants, and a WIS t-shirt that can be bought at school. Before class, students must change into their PE clothes, and after class, change to their regular clothes. In addition, students should bring a combination lock to secure their belongings.

DINING

CulinArt Group, a food-first company with a strong focus on health and wellness, manages the dining program at WIS. Lunch options vary by campus.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CAMPUS

Preschool to Grade 5 students may bring their own lunch or pre-order freshly-prepared meals from CulinArt. Vegetarian options are always available, as well as an assortment of sandwiches, sides, and healthy snacks.

Primary School Pre-Orders: Meals must be ordered online through a MyKidsSpending (MKS) account (see pre-ordering instructions). Orders can be made up to two weeks in advance and must be placed (or adjusted) by 6:00 AM on the day of service. Meals are not charged to a student account until the orders are processed at 6:00 AM each school day.

TREGARON CAMPUS

On the Tregaron Campus (Grades 6–12) lunch options include:

  • Comfort-style hot entrees with side dishes, including vegetarian options
  • Freshly prepared sandwiches, baked chicken tenders, and salads (daily)
  • A rotation of flatbreads, pizza, and quesadillas
  • Recipes prepared with seasonal local produce and ingredients
  • Wellness Wednesday menus featuring nutritious superfoods
  • Grill Fridays

Pre-orders are not accepted/required for lunch on the Tregaron Campus but a MyKidsSpending account is the best way to pay. Cash is not accepted at WIS dining facilities.

The IB Café, located in the Mansion, is also open to faculty, staff, visitors, and Grades 11–12 students. The menu includes coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, fresh baked goods, CulinArt’s signature Quik Pik sandwiches, salads, snacks, and a selection of beverages.
