Nubia Aguilera
PS Spanish Teacher Assistant
Ms. Aguilera received an associate degree from the Early Childhood Institute and also studied at the University of Technology in Bogota, Colombia. She joined the WIS staff full time in 2008, after previously working at WIS’s summer camp and operating her own day care for several years.
Ouahiba Akkache
PS French Teacher Assistant
Ms. Akkache has been a French teaching assistant at WIS since 2005. In her native Algeria, she earned an undergraduate degree in science and worked in accounting for several years.
Mariell Aleman-Lee
PS Spanish Teacher Assistant
Ms. Aleman-Lee received her university degree in Primary Education in Nicaragua and an associate degree in child development from Montgomery College. She is an experienced teacher who substituted at WIS before joining the staff full-time.
Randy Althaus
Middle School Principal
Mr. Althaus came to WIS in 2014, after seven years at Jefferson Middle School in Arlington, VA. He is a Spanish speaker and was chosen to be a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar in Ethiopia. His education credentials include a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley in Linguistics, and an M.A. from Georgetown University in Teaching English as a Second Language.
Richard Anderson
Associate Director of Education Technology Support and Innovation
Mr. Anderson earned a B.A. in Spanish/Portuguese and Latin American studies from the University of Minnesota and a Master of library and information science from the College of St. Catherine, in Minnesota. He also studied at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica, in Brazil. Before coming to WIS in 2006, Mr. Anderson served as a Peace Corps volunteer librarian at the Universite Adventiste-Cosendai, in Cameroon.
Lilia Aparicio
PS English Teacher Assistant
A WIS (’98) graduate, Ms. Aparicio earned a B.A. in broadcasting, television and mass media from Temple University in 2002. Before transitioning to a teacher's assistant in 2024, Ms. Aparicio worked as a summer camp teacher’s aide and teacher, and as a member of the WISEL administrative team. 
Olivier Attias
US Mathematics Teacher
Dr. Attias is a distinguished mathematician with a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and a career dedicated to education and research. Beginning his teaching journey in 1995, he joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in Los Angeles in 1999, where he has been instrumental in shaping the educational experiences of students from diverse backgrounds. Before coming to WIS in 2024, Dr. Attias was teaching in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Attias’s life is a blend of intellectual rigor, physical discipline, and family pride, reflecting his belief in the balance of mental and physical pursuits.
Michaela Audette
MS Learning Specialist
Ms. Audette joined WIS from the Boston area where she taught Middle School Special Education for seven years. She also previously lived in London for two years. While there, she taught at The American School in London in their Middle School Special Education department. Michaela is a graduate of Providence College with a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education. Additionally, she earned her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Boston College.
Teresa Baeza
US Spanish Teacher
Ms. Baeza is a Spanish teacher who has spent her career working in France. Most recently, Ms. Baeza was working as a high school Spanish teacher at the Lycee Descartes. Ms. Baeza holds a BA and an MA in Spanish language, literature and civilization from the University of Paris, Sorbonne Nouvelle. She was born and grew up in the Castilla region in Spain. Having lived in France for the last twenty years, she is fluent in French as well as her native Spanish.
