ART AT WIS PRIMARY SCHOOL
For Early Years students, making art is incorporated into daily classroom activities. Students in Grades 1 to 5 have formal art classes twice per 10-day cycle.
Art projects are typically tied to specific Units of Inquiry, with students challenged to express ideas and concepts through their work.
MUSIC AT WIS PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students in all Primary School grades have music lessons (two to four times per cycle depending on the grade) which include singing, playing simple instruments (drums, recorders, xylophones), and movement. Our teachers are skilled in working with young children and sharing their love of music. Children perform songs in multiple languages, not just those taught within the school.
Our youngest students typically have special performances for their parents, while there are formal concerts for Grades 3 and 4 each year. Students also perform at Special Persons Day and other events.
Students in Grades 4 and 5 who are interested in learning how to play an instrument or who wish to continue playing as part of an ensemble may participate in the Primary School Band/Orchestra at no extra cost. Classes take place after school. There is also an ensemble for students who already play an orchestral or band instrument.
After School choir is offered to interested students in Grades 3-5 and is part of the regular music curriculum at no extra charge. Participants learn about breathing techniques and other methods to enhance singing abilities and will perform a varied repertoire; performances may be on or off campus.
