Tregaron Sports Day Combines Old Favorites with New Challenges
For the second year in a row, Tregaron Sports Day was held both indoors and outdoors, and the Tregaron P.E. team—Nicole Coviello, John Crocker, and Joe Hannah—made sure the day was fun and enjoyable for all.
After an introductory assembly with all sixteen teams (made up of students from mixed grade levels) in the gym, the groups split in half; eight teams gathered behind the Mansion, while the other eight teams remained in the gym.
Inside the gym, there were three team-based activities: Build a Pyramid; Hungry, Hungry Hippos; and a combined Balloon Pop and Cup Stacking Relay. Most teams were able to successfully build a ten-person pyramid—and hold it for 10 seconds—in the allotted time, but some struggled to get the final person on the top before collapsing in a heap and trying again.
Hungry, Hungry Hippos brought the classic childhood game to life, with one student lying on a scooter holding a laundry basket (the "mouth") while another student steered the "hippo" to the center of the gym to catch as many balls in the circle as possible—four teams at a time. This continued, with new "hippos" and drivers each time, until all the balls were caught, and the team that had captured the most was declared the winner.
The final indoor game of the first round involved a relay and many balloons. Teams split in two and lined up on opposite sides of the gym. The first person grabbed an inflated balloon, ran to the chair next to their team table in the center of the gym, sat on the balloon to pop it, then ran to the other side of the gym to high five the next teammate. That person ran back to the table and blew up an uninflated balloon inside a cup in order to lift it and set it inside another cup. The cup could not be touched with any part of the body. Once the cup was stacked that player returned to the start line to high five the next participant, and so on until all 10 cups were in one stack.

Outside, on the lawn behind the Mansion, teams started with the Hula Hoop/Rope Pass. First, teammates held hands to create an unbroken circle. They had to pass a hula hoop in one direction and a rope in the other direction until both went all the way around the circle one time, without breaking the circle.

For the next two activities, teams split in half; one group participated in an Escape Room activity while the other completed a trivia scavenger hunt focused on the history of WIS and Tregaron. The indoor and outdoor groups then switched locations for the second round of the day.

The final event of the day was the ever-popular Tug-of-War, where teams were able to pull on two different sections at the same time to try and take each other down. While the final scores were being tallied, the seniors had a chance to try and beat the faculty, but as usual the faculty dominated.

Although this Sports Day was different without a field, the biggest thing that remained was a sense of fun and excitement for the students and faculty. There was lots of laughter and cheering each other on during the various events, and everyone had a chance to be an integral part of the team in one way or another.
