WIS Parents Speak on Women of HBCUs Panels

WIS Parents Speak on Women of HBCUs Panels

On the final day of Women's History Month (March 31), we were grateful to WIS moms Nana Banful, Kenyatta Hazlewood, and Denise Long for speaking at the Primary School and Middle School assemblies about attending Historically Black College or Universities!

All three panelists spoke about why they chose to attend an HBCU (Spelman College, Howard University, and Howard University College of Medicine, respectively) and what their experiences were like. They also emphasized the strong sense of community they felt while attending these schools and still feel today—their classmates became their families. Finally, they spoke about the impact of each division doing a door decorating contest that highlights HBCUs, and how pleased they were that WIS students have the opportunity to learn about these schools at an early age.

Thank you again to Nana, Kenyatta, and Denise—and our moderators Aldaine Wynter (PS) and Marilyn Wilson Odhiambo (MS)—for speaking to our communities! We appreciate you!
